Anesthesiologist Dr. Matthew S. Karp is retiring from the practice of medicine after more than 40 years of service.
Dr. Kaspars appointment schedulers office will be closed, as of Jan. 6, 2019, the Riverside County Medical Department announced Friday.
The office will not be available for scheduling appointments.
Dr, Karp’s resignation will be effective at the end of March 2019.
He will continue to be an instructor of the assistant faculty in surgery and an adjunct faculty member in anesthesiology at the Riverside Hospital and Medical Center.
Dr Karp said he has decided to take this time to focus on the healing of my family, his patients and my colleagues.
The decision is not a reflection of my professional ability or the quality of my work.
Dr. Kars decision comes as part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality and safety of my practice and to focus my attention on patients, the hospital and the hospital staff, the Medical Department said.
Dr Karp was the chief of surgery at Riverside Hospital from 2003 to 2018.
He was inducted into the National Physician Council and has served on the board of directors of the American College of Surgeons.
He received the American Medical Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2010 and has been honored with the U.S. Medal of Honor.
He has been an assistant professor of surgery and surgery assistant professor at the University of California, Riverside, since 2010, when he earned his medical degree from the University.
He also taught surgical residency at UC Riverside.
Dr Sajid Javid, who has served as the Medical Director of Surgery at the hospital since 2016, said the decision to retire is a difficult one.
“The work he has done over the last four decades at Riverside has inspired me,” Dr. Javid said.
“He has dedicated his career to ensuring the health and safety and well-being of patients, staff and the community at large.
He has a special place in our hearts.”
Dr. Javed said he is pleased Dr. Sajd will continue working with his patients in a way that is safe, efficient and responsible.
Dr Sajad is also a member of the National Association of Medical Specialists and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr Javid added that he is looking forward to continuing to serve as the hospital’s director of surgery.
“I have known Dr. John for many years, and I have enjoyed his service at the Hospital,” he said.
