Italia’s goal by Udinese midfielder Giacomo Verdi in a 1-1 draw against Roma was a fitting end to a memorable evening for the Serie A side.
Verdi’s strike, which came after Roma goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon made an incredible save, came as the visitors’ lead was almost two goals to nil after just two minutes.
The Italian international had to head a cross from the left by Sergio Amadio on his way past a helpless Buffon to score.
The goal came after Udinese went ahead early in the second half and goalkeeper Fabio Mancini saved the header of a shot from former Udinese captain and current Roma star Simone Zaza.
The result sees Roma reach the Champions League round of 16, with their next league game coming on Friday, August 28.
Udinese have already beaten Frosinone, Fiorentina and Genoa in the last two games, and are now just two points behind leaders Juventus.
