Social Security is getting an appointment with a doctor, Social Security official says

The Social Security Administration is issuing a call for information on a doctor to be assigned to see a disability person who is undergoing the process of getting a disability benefit.

The agency has been trying to reach out to doctors in the field for months, said Carol D’Andrea, a spokeswoman for the agency.

The request is part of the agency’s ongoing effort to provide a more seamless transition to disability benefits.

The office of the commissioner for the Social Security program received a request last month, she said.

A Social Security employee is checking into the physician’s office to see if they can arrange a appointment for a person who may be eligible for disability benefits, D’andrea said.

The person would need to be evaluated for eligibility for disability and could have a mental health issue, but the agency is not trying to get into specifics about a specific case.

The goal is to get a physician on the phone to see the individual as soon as possible, D’trea said, adding that the agency will not have a list of all the people it has spoken with.

It is unclear how many people the Social Service Administration has contacted about the request.

The Social Service Agency said it has had no contact with the doctor, D’mandrea.

The call came on Thursday.

It was first reported by the Associated Press.
