The Department of Health has clarified the policy surrounding appointments to GPs and says people should not expect to be able to call for an appointment unless they can provide a valid appointment number.
“All appointments should be made to a GP by phone,” the department’s chief medical officer Dr Richard Brown said in a statement.
“There will be a limited number of GP appointments in the next three weeks.”
We also have increased the threshold for appointments to be made via email.
People can call on a specific day and we’ll be in touch with them to make sure they have a GP appointment.
